Volunteer opportunities
At Regions Hospital and HealthPartners clinics across the Twin Cities, we offer two hospital volunteer services programs. No medical or clinic volunteer experience is required. You must be 15 years of age or older to apply. People of all backgrounds and interests are welcome.
Year-round program
Length: Minimum of six months or 100 hours
Summer program
Length: 10 to 12 weeks during the summer
Welcome visitors to the Breast Health Care Center. Assist staff with patients, charts and clerical work. Volunteers must be able to provide directions for patients who come in for various tests (i.e., mammograms, ultrasounds). This position is only available to female volunteers, and shifts are only available during weekday business hours.
Assist, greet and welcome guests to the Bright Corner gift shop. Help gift shop staff with the cash register along with stocking, displays and pricing.
Provide orientation to the unit for families and guests. Answer call lights and assist with phones/clerical work. Visit and provide companionship to patients. Volunteers must be comfortable entering patient rooms. Volunteer shifts are offered during evening hours.
Work in the infusion room assisting patients with companionship, snack distribution and socialization. Visit with patients receiving treatments. Volunteer shifts are only available during weekday business hours.
Assist with clerical duties, including data entry, mailings and possible phone work. Many departments available. Shifts available weekday business hours.
Provide a welcoming atmosphere to our visitors and guests at our information welcome desks. Volunteers will assist with escorts and transports throughout the hospital. Volunteers must be able to walk/stand for extended periods of time. Shifts are available seven days a week at various times.
Assist triage staff with transporting and discharging patients, wiping down the waiting room, offering blankets to patients who are waiting, stocking nursing supplies and the blanket warmer, as well as other miscellaneous tasks.
Assist the staff in our employee health and wellness department by performing administrative and clerical tasks in an office setting. Shifts available during weekday business hours.
Provide volunteer support to Birth Center patients and families during their inpatient hospital stay. Assist with unit organization and clerical work, cleaning, and stocking, transporting patients during discharge, and answering call lights. Volunteers must be comfortable entering patient rooms. Volunteer shifts are offered 7 days a week from 11am to 2pm and 4pm to 7pm.
Create a warm, welcoming environment to groups signed up for Birth Center tours and conduct tours of Birth Center for prospective or current families using standardized script. Volunteers must be able to walk/stand for extended periods of time and must be dependable. Candidates will be interviewed by Birth Center leadership team. Shifts and tours based on volunteer availability (minimum 3-hour shifts preferred).
HealthPartners Clinical Simulation is a department within the HealthPartners Institute dedicated to improving patient care, safety, processes and systems through innovative simulation-based clinical education. We facilitate and recreate an experiential learning environment and practice opportunities to promote teamwork, communication, skills mastery, clinical reasoning and systems improvement either within the Clinical Simulation & Learning Centers at Regions Hospital, Methodist Hospital, or at the learner’s location via our mobile program.
Our Clinical Simulation department volunteers support acting needs within the department as simulated patients or embedded actors/characters. In addition, volunteers will assist with daily operations of our simulation centers.
Distribute materials, supplies and linen throughout the hospital. Weekday morning and afternoon shifts available.
Play soothing music for patients and guests in our atrium area. Intermediate to advanced level of music knowledge is required. Volunteer shifts are available seven days a week.
Program description:
Volunteer interviews patients about their life. Writes short narratives about their life based on the interview. Patient reviews and approves the story written by the volunteer.
The volunteer uploads the story into the Electronic Health Record system, Epic.
Typical work schedule is Mon- Friday during the day. Ideally work two ½ days, concurrently per week. Example: Wed and Thu from 1-4pm.
Qualifications:
Work with our laboratory staff performing clerical and administrative tasks in a laboratory environment. Shifts available during weekday business hours.
Help promote a healing environment by bringing your certified pet to visit patients and visitors. All pets must have current certification through Pet Partners. Volunteer shifts are available seven days a week at various times.
Transport patients scheduled for therapy to designated therapy areas. Assist physical therapy staff in clerical work and other tasks assigned. Shifts are available morning and afternoons seven days a week.
Provide clerical assistance in our PACU area of surgery. Duties include answering phones, directing guests and assisting staff with administrative projects. Volunteers should be comfortable in a medically intense environment. Shifts available weeknights.
Assist our nursing unit staff with stocking supplies on the unit and in patient rooms.
Provide orientation to the unit for families, friends and guests. Answer call lights and assist with phones and clerical work. Volunteers must be comfortable entering patient rooms. Volunteer shifts are offered during evening hours.
Assist our Surgery Center staff with stocking supplies, room turnover and other projects in our busy Surgery Center. Volunteers should be comfortable in a medically intense environment. Shifts available weekdays.
Create a warm, welcoming environment in our surgery waiting area. Manage families and guests using our pager system and escort families back to the consult areas. Oversee the hospitality room and provide administrative assistance to staff. Shifts available Monday through Friday, days.
Sporadic opportunities arranged with researchers to assist with lab projects. Volunteers must have at least two years of post-secondary level science courses to qualify for program. Limited availability and shifts are only available during weekday business hours. Applications for the competitive summer program are accepted beginning in March.
