Regions Hospital Doctors & Specialties Birth Center Childbirth classes near St. Paul

Taking a prenatal class is one of the best ways you can prepare for birth and caring for your new baby. We offer many different classes so you can choose one that’s right for you and your family.

Prenatal classes through Everyday Miracles

Regions Hospital Family Birth Center has partnered with Everyday Miracles to provide a diverse range of affordable childbirth and parenting classes for our patients. Classes are taught at Regions Hospital or at Everyday Miracles’ Northeast Minneapolis location, and they’re open to all families regardless of where they are giving birth. Classes are available in English, Spanish and Somali.

Join us for classes about:

  • Birth planning – Learn common comfort measures, pain medications and interventions you may encounter during birth.
  • Mindful birth – Use traditional yoga and meditation techniques to lower stress while you prepare for childbirth and beyond.
  • Unmedicated birth – Learn practical strategies and tools to support your plan for a birth with few interventions.
  • Lamaze technique – Understand what to expect and what choices you have during pregnancy and birth, based on the best medical evidence available.
  • Breastfeeding – Make breastfeeding comfortable and effective from the first latch through supplementing, pumping, maintaining your supply and other common issues.
  • Postpartum basics – Learn what to expect physically and emotionally, as well as how to best care for yourself and your newborn during “the fourth trimester.”
  • CPR & infant safety – Get information on how to keep your baby safe and how to give first aid in an emergency.
  • Vaginal birth after cesarean (VBAC) – Explore your options, get information and prepare for a VBAC.

All of the classes at Everyday Miracles are designed to be accessible to everyone regardless of income. If you have state-sponsored health coverage or Medicaid, you can request a discount.

Group prenatal care

Group prenatal care combines routine prenatal care with interactive learning opportunities for expecting parents. If you choose group prenatal care, you’ll be with 8-10 other moms-to-be with similar due dates. A midwife or nurse practitioner and a clinic nurse lead the group. And the group setting helps you connect, learn together and build a supportive community.

Studies have shown that parents who participate in group prenatal care are less likely to experience postpartum depression. They’re also less likely to have preterm births, more likely to have success in breastfeeding, and more likely to report high satisfaction with their prenatal care.

Our group prenatal care is called Partners in Pregnancy.

Mindful birthing classes

Research shows that mindfulness practices reduce mothers’ fears of labor. This childbirth education class helps you focus on the present rather than remembering the past or worrying about the future. Certified Nurse Midwife Kris Tromiczak teaches a nine-week Mindfulness-Based Childbirth and Parenting class offered through Regions Hospital Birth Center.
