Orthopedic Physical Therapy Residency

Advancing orthopedic physical therapy care

The TRIA Orthopedic Physical Therapy Residency provides an advanced, evidence-based curriculum and high-quality mentorship that develops orthopedic physical therapists dedicated to enhancing patient outcomes, patient-centered care and community well-being.  The one-year program is for highly motivated and engaged physical therapists who aspire to practice at the top of the profession.

Accreditation

Our program received candidacy approval from ABPTRFE. We are now hiring for our second class to begin in July 2026.  We anticipate full accreditation by June 2026 prior to graduation of the first class.

We currently have one position available at each site below:

  • Maple Grove
  • Minneapolis
  • Plymouth
  • Woodbury

Residency Schedule

Residents work a full-time schedule of four 10-hour workdays for a total of 40 hours of independent clinical practice (including 4 hours of weekly 1:1 clinical mentorship).  Additionally, residents will have 4 hours each week of didactics and 4 weekend intensives throughout the year.

Credentials for application

  • Doctorate degree in physical therapy
  • Take the National Physical Therapy Examination no later than April 2026
  • License to practice physical therapy in Minnesota by July 1, 2026

Length

  • 1 year: July 2026 through July 2027

Interview Date

  • On-site interviews will be held on Wednesday, February 11, 2026

Our first class will graduate in July 2026.  Outcomes will be updated as they become available.
