Our keynote address will set the stage for the conference, highlighting the importance of providing value-based care for musculoskeletal conditions, focusing educating primary care providers to make informed decisions about diagnosis and referrals.

8:30am – 9:30am | Session 1 | Diagnostic Approaches and Initial Management
In our first session of the day, we will cover diagnostic strategies for common musculoskeletal concerns, including when to use imaging, how to manage bone stress injuries, and guidelines for referring patients with back pain.

9:30am – 10:30am | Session 2 | Joint Complaints: What’s the Work Up?
Attendees will learn about the evaluation and management options for shoulder, knee, and hip pain, including how long to try conservative treatments before referring to orthopedics.

We will be concurrently running four breakout sessions: two on imaging and two on physical exam. Attendees will choose two of the four to attend. The imaging breakouts are didactic and will focus on what to order and when, while the physical exam breakouts will be hands-on practice. Note: Virtual attendees will only be able to participate in the two didactic imaging sessions.

This session will address the management of apophysitis, tendinopathies, anterior knee pain, cervical spine versus peripheral nerve compression, and common lumps and bumps in the hand and wrist.

The focus for this session will be on best practices for managing osteoarthritis and promoting bone health across different age groups, including the role of physical therapy and conservative management.

2:45pm – 3:50pm | Sessions 7 & 8 | Breakout Sessions – Injections / When Joint Pain is Not Just Joint Pain
We will be concurrently running four breakout sessions: two on performing injections and two on when joint pain is not just joint pain. Attendees will choose two of the four to attend. The injection breakouts will be hands-on with practice while the joint pain sessions will be didactic in nature. Note: Virtual attendees will only be able to participate in the two didactic joint pain sessions.

The conference will conclude with a recap of value-based care principles and Paul Johnson, MD will review the X-ray Unknowns from throughout the day, summarizing key takeaways and emphasizing the importance of accurate diagnosis and appropriate referrals.
