Enhancing Advanced Practice School Partnerships
At HealthPartners, we’re committed to establishing a best in class learning environment that provides shared value to our learners, our patients, our organization, and the communities we serve. To enhance and streamline student clinical rotations for nurse practitioner and physician assistant students we are on a journey to design quality clinical experiences in partnership with select schools. See the experience overview here.
Why we’re doing this
Historically, training has been accommodated based on past patterns. The increasing demand for clinical experiences has resulted in an unsustainable mismatch for clinical rotation requests and HealthPartners’ capacity. We believe that with collaborative school partners we can leverage the strength of our clinical teams to design a more streamlined, coordinated, quality clinical experience for students.
Our vision is one we design together
Students train at dedicated centers where preceptors have the passion, skills, and time to teach among interprofessional teams enacting best practices. Fewer students over a longitudinal period (9-12 months) immerses them into the culture of HealthPartners, facilitates recruitment and streamlines administrative support. A new model of shared financial support will ensure sustainability into the future.
The first cohort of the Advanced Practice Educational eXperience (APEX) Program launched in January with an orientation for the first four students of the program. Learn more about the students here.
