Advanced practice clinician school partnership

Advanced Practice Educational eXperience (APEX)

Since its launch in 2022, the Advanced Practice Educational eXperience (APEX) has partnered with select Advanced Practice Clinician (APC) schools to deliver a comprehensive, longitudinal clinical training experience at dedicated HealthPartners sites. Through these partnerships, APEX has strengthened relationships with academic institutions, supported student recruitment, and improved onboarding and readiness for practice. Many APEX graduates have gone on to join HealthPartners or continue their development through fellowship programs. We are deeply appreciative of our academic and clinical partners and the meaningful outcomes achieved together.

Transition Details

Following a thoughtful evaluation, we determined that while the current APEX training model has a strong and positive impact on individual learners, it requires significant resources that limit its ability to expand and scale across our system. To ensure our efforts continue to deliver the greatest possible impact for learners, teams, and our organization, we will be transitioning the program as follows:

  • Beginning in Winter 2026, no new students will be enrolled in the APEX training model.
  • The final cohort of APEX students will complete their training by Spring 2026.

Looking Ahead: Our Future Vision

HealthPartners remains firmly committed to advancing APC education and clinical training. Building on the lessons and successes of APEX, we will continue collaborating with schools and clinical partners to develop innovative, scalable training approaches that support learners while aligning with system needs.

Our future work will continue to be guided by a focus on learner need, supportive infrastructure, and purposeful placement—ensuring high-quality educational experiences that can reach more learners and create lasting impact.
