Prenatal care to support your pregnancy

If you’d like to deliver your baby at Regions Family Birth Center, the first step is to select an OB-GYN or midwife for prenatal care. Many of our doctors and midwives who provide prenatal care at locations around Minnesota and western Wisconsin also deliver babies at our birth center.

Prenatal care is key to ensuring that you and your baby get all the care you need throughout your pregnancy. Appointments generally start between weeks six to 12 of your pregnancy and typically occur every four weeks or so. At each appointment, your care team will run any necessary tests, track your baby’s growth, answer your questions, and give you guidance around topics like nutrition, sleep and exercise.

Enhanced couplet care rooms

Regions Hospital is one of the only hospitals in Minnesota to have enhanced couplet care rooms in our birth center. When a baby needs a higher level of care but doesn’t need to go to the neonatal intensive care unit (NICU), families can stay with their baby in our enhanced couplet care rooms. Studies show that keeping parents and babies together, whenever possible, improves health outcomes for the whole family. Enhanced couplet care is known to:

  • Give parents more confidence in caring for their baby
  • Help parents attune to their baby’s behavioral cues
  • Encourage parent-baby bonding
  • Promote successful breastfeeding
  • Reduce stress and anxiety

Level II NICU

Our birth center has a dedicated space where we provide exceptional care for high-risk births. Our level II NICU is staffed by neonatologists from Children’s Hospital.

If you have a high-risk pregnancy, our maternal-fetal medicine experts will partner with your care team during your prenatal and postpartum care to make sure you and your baby are supported with the latest treatments and techniques. No matter the complexity of your pregnancy, you’ll have a personalized birth plan and a dedicated, informed team looking after you.
